New Delhi: Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha has sparked a major controversy after he compared Kargil martyr's daughter Gurmehar Kaur to Mumbai serial blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim in a twitter post.

Simha's reaction is in reference to Kaur’s recent campaign against the right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad whom she has blamed for the violence at Ramjas College.

In 2016, she had posted a silent video in which she was seen holding a placard that read, “Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him”. She had called for an end to the India-Pakistan conflict.

In a tit-for-tat move, Simha on Sunday posted juxtaposed images of Kaur and Ibrahim with the title, “At least Dawood did not use the crutches of his father’s name to justify his anti-national stand”.

The post shows a photo of Ibrahim holding a placard that reads, “I did not kill people in 1993, bombs killed them.” Simha said that he reposted the image of an earlier Facebook post and he stood by the comments.

In her previous campaign, Kaur had said, “I also remember how much I used to hate Pakistan and Pakistanis because they killed my dad. I thought all Muslims are Pakistanis.”

Her latest post on the social media has invited sharp reactions from various quarters particularly from cricketer Virendra Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda.

On Sunday, Sehwag posted a placard that read, “I didn’t score two triple centuries. My bat did.”

Hooda on the other hand said said Kaur’s campaign “reeks of political usage of a man’s child who died defending the line drawn.”

Their posts have escalated the controversy on the internet on Monday.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has also raised concerns and said, “Who is polluting this young girl’s mind?”

However senior journalist Shekhar Gupta criticised Sehwag and Hooda and said in a twitter post “Nobody’s patriotism needs certificates and hers has stamp of her father’s supreme sacrifice”.

The 20-year-old has claimned that she received rape threats in response to her campaign.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said he was in touch with Delhi Policeover the situation arising out of the Ramjas College clash.

The minister told journalists that he had asked Delhi Police to act with caution.

"I have told Delhi Police to practice restraint so that nothing goes wrong. I am constantly in touch with the police commissioner," he said.

Delhi University's Ramjas College witnessed violent clashes on February 22 after ABVP members allegedly forced the cancellation of a seminar and the next day disrupted a march by its critics.

The Delhi Police was widely blamed for not restraining the ABVP activists and also for assaulting students and journalists.

Three policemen were suspended last week on charges of assault.
