New Delhi: Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday demanded the resignation of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Mayor Preeti Aggarwal, who is facing serious allegations of corruption and a vigilance inquiry.
AAP leader Dilip Pandey, who made the demand, said either Aggarwal should be removed from her post or all cases of corruption against her transferred to the CBI.
"Either (Delhi BJP unit chief) Manoj Tiwari should obtain her (Aggarwal's) resignation so an independent inquiry can be done or all cases against her transferred to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)," Pandey said.
The inquiry against Aggarwal was initiated after a complaint was lodged with the offices of President Ram Nath Kovind and Lt Governor Anil Baijal.
He said Tiwari, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP, should apologise to the public for the "corruption done by the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi".
Hitting out at Aggarwal, the AAP leader said, ''The NDMC was unable to pay its employees but its Mayor threw big parties in five-star hotels."
"The revelations of scams done by BJP leaders, whose slogan during the Delhi MCD elections was 'Naye Chehre, Naye Udaan' prove that it is nothing but 'Unchi Dukaan, Phika Pakwaan'," he added.
Aggarwal is under the scanner for allegedly demanding a 10 percent cut in clearing tenders worth crores.
On December 28 last year, Baijal's office had received a complaint from a Supreme Court lawyer against Aggarwal, which was forwarded to the Chief Vigilance Officer for a probe into the allegations made against the NDMC mayor.
