The EVM AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj 'hacked' in Delhi Assembly was created by his own team

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party legislator Saurabh Bharadwaj, who on Tuesday sought to demonstrate how an Electronic Voting Machine can be tampered with to rig results, revealed on Wednesday that the EVM he used inside the Delhi Assembly was created by his own team.

ABP news quoted the AAP MLA as saying: “It was a replica of EC's voting machine created by our team which includes people from IT field.”

"BEL and ECIL, manufacturers of EVMs in India, don't have any in-house mechanism to create EVMs. These firms don't even rank in top 500 IT companies. The technology they use is outsourced and the chips of EVMs are bought from other countries," he alleged.

"Firms that sell chips to these companies don't manufacture microprocessors others too. If BEL and ECIL can buy microcontrollers from those firms, others too can purchase them and create machines by using the same technology to prove they that can be rigged," he said.

Bharadwaj, a former minister, had yesterday brought a prototype of what looked like an EVM used by the Election Commission and went on to claim how codes embedded inside an EVM can be used to manipulate results.

"Those who install software in these machines for hacking create these secret codes," he said.

The Election Commissionon Tuesday rejected the AAP claims that electronic voting machines can be tampered with and said that the machine used for demonstration in the Delhi Assembly was only a "prototype" of an EVM.

"What they (AAP) used is a prototype... The EVMs used for polling are with the EC. How can they say they have hacked an EVM using a prototype," asked a Commission official, who did not want to be named.
