Mumbaikars will now have to pay more for Compressed Natural Gas and piped cooking gas (Piped Natural Gas -PNG) with effect from November 5. A month after the prices were increased by up to Rs 6, Mahanagar Gas Limited has announced to increase the prices again by up to Rs 3.50. Now, the CNG will cost Rs 89.5 per kg while the PNG will cost Rs 54 per scm (standard cubic meter).
Earlier, the prices were hiked on October 3. Mahanagar Gas had increased the retail price of compressed natural gas by Rs 6/kg and piped natural gas by Rs 4/ SCM last month taking the CNG price to Rs 86/kg and PNG to Rs 52.50/SCM.
With this, the Indraprastha Gas Limited is also expected to increase its prices for Delhi-NCR region.
With this hike, the price savings between CNG and petrol is down to around 42 per cent while that of PNG and LPG is down to around nine per cent. Thus, the users who may have switched to the cheaper alternative may not be saving more compared to their earlier spending on petrol and LPG.
In Mumbai, the prices of Petrol were Rs 106.31 per litre while that of Diesel was Rs 94.27 per litre.
Mahangar Gas supplies PNG to 1.98 million households and over 4,000 small commercial and 360 industrial establishments in Mumbai and neighboring regions. The MGL also distributes CNG through its 296 CNG pumps present across the city including Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Navi Mumbai, Greater Mumbai and Panvel.
