CAT 2023 aims to facilitate admission into MBA and PGDM courses offered by 21 IIMs and more than 1,200 business schools nationwide. The exam will feature questions from three main categories: data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR), quantitative ability (QA), and verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC).
Several factors contribute to the surge in CAT registrations this year. Firstly, the inclusion of CAT scores in the admission processes of esteemed institutes and IITs has made it a more attractive option for students. Additionally, the expansion of exam centers in smaller cities has played a significant role in the increased number of applications.
Each IIM has a different selection procedure. Usually, the selection process comprises CAT exam score and written ability test (WAT) or group discussion or personal interview (PI). Each IIM assign different weightage to these phases. It also sets a minimum CAT exam cutoff percentile to participate in the next round of the IIM admission process. Candidates can check the admission criteria by visiting the websites of respective IIMs.
