New Delhi: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education is likely to scrap the practice of internal exams in schools at Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) levels from the academic year 2018-19.
Until recently, the board used to follow a marking pattern of 20 and 80. The internals, which were conducted either in the form of oral or practical exams, would contain 20 marks while the finals carried 80 marks. The pass mark was calculated by combining marks of both the assessments.
“The department is planning to change the marking scheme, discussions have begun, it will be finalised in the next couple of days and we will issue a circular,” a senior official from the department was quoted as saying by the 'Hindustan Times'.
The board has set up a committee consisting experts and are looking on alternative marking schemes suggested by the experts. As per the report, some of the proposals seek to hold 100 mark written exams, scrapping internals entirely while others are looking at awarding grades instead of marks for internals.
“We met recently to discuss the proposals, but I cannot comment on it until the department announces it publicly,” report further quoted an official from the textbook bureau as saying.
