As per the UGC NET information bulletin, successful candidates fall into three categories: Category 1 candidates qualify for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), assistant professorship, and PhD admissions. Category 2 candidates are eligible for assistant professorship and PhD admissions, while Category 3 candidates qualify only for PhD admissions.

In the UGC NET exam, candidates were awarded two marks for every correct answer, with no penalty for incorrect answers. Unanswered, unattempted, or marked-for-review questions did not receive marks. If a question had multiple correct answers or was unclear, candidates received marks for any valid selection. Additionally, if a question was found to be incorrect and later discarded, candidates who attempted it were still awarded two marks.
