Kolkata, Sept 15: Major central trade unions in coal industry have threatened to launch agitation if the NDA government decided to go ahead with its policy of privatisation by passing Coal Mines Nationalisation (Amendment) Bill, 2000.
The decision to launch movement was taken at the workers' convention at Asansol yesterday, which was attended by over 600 delegates belonging to various coal trade unions.
General Secretary of Indian Mine Worker Federation Sunil Sen said here today that if the government made any move towards privatisation in coal sector, trade unions in coal industry would hold demonstration in front of Coal India head quarters here on December 17.
He said the trade unions had planned to pressurise the NDA government to give up its policy of privatisation of coal sector.
