50 Cent apologises after mocking autistic airport janitor
Rapper-actor 50 Cent has issued an apology after being under fire for posting a video of himself making fun of a disabled young man who works at an airport.
New York: Rapper-actor 50 Cent has issued an apology after being under fire for posting a video of himself making fun of a disabled young man who works at an airport.
The 40-year-old actor was criticised for posting a video of himself making fun of a man named Andrew Farrell.
The rapper, whose real name Curtis James Jackson III, issued a statement yesterday, reported the New York Post.
"While the incident at the airport resulted from an unfortunate misunderstanding, I am truly sorry for offending the young man," the "In Da Club" rapper said.
"It was certainly not my intent to insult him or the disability community, which is a source of great strength in America. I have apologized personally to him and his family," he added.
While rumors said Andrew's family is demanding money in compensation for the slight, a lawyer for the family said in an email that they would be satisfied by a "sincere apology."
50 Cent originally uploaded the video on Instagram but quickly deleted it.
"This new generation is crazy," the rapper said in the video, "What's your name? Look at him! What you think he took before he got to work today? He is high right here in the airport. Pupils dilated and everything."
At the time, Andrew kept quiet and just shook his head without responding to any of the rapper's insults.
