New Delhi, Oct 24: Delhiites this Diwali should stick to the Supreme Court norms as virtually the entire Delhi Police force, armed with modern gizmos, is ready to crack down on those bursting crackers above 125 decibel level and also those doing it after 2200 hours. "Virtually our entire force would be out to ensure implementation of the supreme court order," joint commissioner of police Maxwell Pereira told news agencies.

In an order applicable across the country, the Supreme Court on September 10 had banned bursting of crackers between 10 pm and 6 am with a warning that the crackers used in the festivity should not exceed the 125 db level.

Determined to enforce the apex court order in letter and spirit, the Delhi Police has decided to launch a virtual crackdown on those violating the directive.

Pereira said that officers and other personnel of Delhi Police would be patrolling streets and prosecute violators.

Several officers have also been provided with special decibel-measuring devices to ensure that crackers beyond 125 db level are not burst, the joint commissioner said.

Hundreds of these devices have recently been acquired by Delhi Police to ensure noise pollution is prevented, he added.
