Chennai, Sept 06: Congress today ruled out any truck with AIADMK and said it was prepared to go it alone in the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
Senior Congress leader Ram Niwas Mirdha described AIADMK as 'pro-BJP' and said Congress would not have any truck with any such parties.
On prospects of a DMK-Congress combine for the next Lok Sabha polls, he told a press conference that as long as DMK was a constituent of BJP-led NDA, there was no question of aligning with that party. Even if DMK snapped its ties with NDA, Congress would have to consult with 'like-minded' parties, on aligning with the DMK, he said.
"We rule out any alliance with the constituents of the NDA and pro-BJP parties. We are prepared to go it alone, if need be, without any tie-up with other parties in the Lok Sabha polls," he said. Mirdha, who is the chief election officer of the AICC, said that Congress would go in for a massive membership drive in Tamil Nadu. It had fixed a target of enrolling 50 lakh members, he said.
