Seoul, July 02: Germany`s Oliver Kahn has been named the best player of the 2002 World Cup. The 33-year-old Germany captain edged out Brazil`s goal-scoring hero Ronaldo after a vote by journalists.
Kahn received 147 votes, 21 more than Ronaldo, who scored two goals against Kahn in the final, the first following a rare mistake by the German number one.
South Korean captain Hong Myung-bo finished third with 108 votes.
The award, sponsored by German sportswear manufacturer Adidas recognises the outstanding individual player during the World Cup tournament.
Ballots were cast by journalists who were present at the World Cup third-place play-off game between South Korea and Turkey and the final between Germany and Brazil.
