Singapore, Sept 06: Thailand and India will sign a free trade agreement (FTA) next month during a visit by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Thailand, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said here today. "We expect to conclude and sign (the agreement) when Prime Minister Vajpayee visits Thailand on October 12," Thaksin said at a news conference after meeting with his Singapore counterpart Goh Chok Tong.
Negotiators were expected to wrap up talks this month, he said.
Officials from both countries have said that an FTA will double bilateral trade to two billion dollars annually.
Once the FTA is signed, both sides will immediately reduce tariffs on more than 80 products with the objective of reducing the levies to zero by 2010, officials said.
