Navi Mumbai, May 27: An 'easy to use' water auditing and management software 'Jal-Chitra' was introduced to the villagers in Maharashtra at a workshop held here along with the ongoing it training undertaken by the NGO `one village one computer' (1v1c). The 1v1c trained 150 women from May 17 to 21 and 100 men and boys are being trained from May 24 to 28 on 'Jal-Chitra', developed by Delhi-based physicist Dr Vikram Vyas. The software will help maintain the entire record of water resources and the needs of different categories and also give solutions to match the unpredictable source and its constant demand, Vyas who developed the software initially for Rajasthan villages, said at the workshop.
The software works on ‘Devnagari’ script and can be learned in one day. Most of the men and women already had training in it for housing, health and food management in the villages despite some of them being illiterate or 7th or 8th standard passed, 1v1c Chief Project Manager Anil Shaligram said. 'Jal-Chitra' software is user-friendly and area-specific map-based incorporating the data on water budgeting of the village calculating minimum likely amount available in a year, facility for water-testing for its potability and maintenance of water pumps and other accessories.
Once the community helps in filing the data, the adminstrative authorities could make use of it in implementation of related schemes, Vyas said.
The workshop also concentrated on water-harvesting, Shaligram added. Bureau Report
