It's because according to Hindu mythology each day is dedicated to some lord.

Here, we bring you the list of which day is dedicated to which lord:


Sunday:


Sunday is the day of Lord Surya or the Sun God, also addressed as Lord Suryanarayana. Those fasting on this day are allowed to eat once and that too before sunset. Red is the colour of the day.


Monday:


Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Due to the belief that it's easy to please Bholenath, many observe fasting on Monday. Unmarried women do it to get a good husband, while others observe for prosperity. White is the colour of the day.


Tuesday:


Tuesday is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Kali and Lord Hanuman. Those fasting avoid taking salty food. Devotees visit Hanuman and Devi shrines on this day donning red or orange coloured clothes.


Wednesday:


Wednesday is dedicated to Lord Vithal, which is a manifestation of the Vishnu or his avatar, Krishna. This day is considered very auspicious to start new ventures and people offer Tulsi leaves for worshipping the respective Lord. Green is the colour of the day.


Thursday:


Thursday is dedicated to the supreme God- Vishnu. Devotees offer milk, ghee, etc during its worship. Those fasting on the day are allowed to eat milk products that too just once. Yellow is the colour of the day.


Friday:


Friday is the day of all the Devis like Mahalakshmi, Santoshi Maa, Annapuraneshwari and Durga Maa. Those fasting on the day are allowed to eat at night. White is the colour of the day.


Saturday:


Saturday is dedicated to one of the navagraha of Jyotisa- Shani Dev. Shani dev helps to eradicate the bad influence and those fasting on the day consume food just once. Black is the colour of the day.
