New Delhi, May 07: The Supreme Court today directed the Delhi government to close down all industrial units in residential and non-conforming areas set up after August 01, 1999. The court said, light household industries would be allowed to continue in the residential and non-conforming areas.

The court said all heavy industries and hazardous chemical units will have to be closed forthwith if they are found to be operating in the residential and non-conforming areas. The court gave four months time for the closure of 'F' category industries and five months for the light service industries and the light household industries located in the residential areas would be exempted from the direction of the closure.

The court directed the central government to determine within three months as to which are the permissible household industries which would be allowed to operate in the residential areas.
