Mysterious disease checked, no more children deaths
Baharampur (West Bengal), June 07: The mysterious disease that claimed the lives of 30 children in West Bengal`s Murshidabad district has been checked and no new deaths have been reported since last evening, district magistrate Manoj Pant said today.

"There have been no fresh deaths and the affected are being treated at Jangipur Sadar Hospital," he said.
Local medical team was treating the affected children and a special team from Kolkata will arrive here today to conduct further examinations he said. Unofficial sources have said that 30 children had succumbed to the disease, which is characterised by high fever and profuse secretion of saliva. Most cases had occurred in remote villages of Lalbag sub-division of the district. State health services director, Dr Prabhakar Chatterjee had said yesterday that the disease was reported from Kadamtala, Kochidanga, Ramchandrapur, Nasibpur, Kurgachi and Notundiar gram panchayat areas under Lalgola block in the sub-division.
