Coimbatore, July 25: Security would be tightened during the proposed visit of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi here on August 1, following the "reported utterances" of a murder accused on "anticipated revengeful act against him for the Gujarat killings." Intelligence sources said the accused, while coming out of a court last evening, reportedly stated that Modi's visit to Coimbatore was not for good.
"In case Modi comes to Coimbatore, finishing touches to the attacks on Muslims in Gujarat would be given here," the sources quoted the accused as having said.
Modi is scheduled to visit the city on August 1 and address a public meeting at VOC Park grounds, as part of the state-wide rath yatra, being taken out by Tamil Nadu BJP president C P Radhakrishnan, to highlight the achievements of NDA government. Without taking the utterances lightly, elaborate security arrangements would be made on that day in and around the city, a senior police official said.
The force has been fully geared up to meet any threat, the official said, adding it was too premature to say anything now, as the department has not received any concrete information about the programmes of Modi. Bureau Report
