Dehradun, Feb 14: LG Electronics India today set up its production facility near here, the third in the country, which will roll out 3 lakh air conditioners annually
The company, the fully owned subsidiary of South Korean consumer electronics giant LG Electronics, has invested Rs 10 crore and will pump in another Rs 25 crore by September for expanding the facility to producing high-range TV and TV projectors, S N Rai, general manager, LG said. He said by December the company will invest another Rs 47 crore in the facility for manufacturing washing machines and microwaves, he said. The manufacturing facility is one of the biggest for the production of window and split air conditioners and commercial air conditioners and every third ac in the country will be supplied from here. LG has one facility each in greater Noida and Pune. Rai said the company expects a business of Rs 670 crore by the end of this financial year, which would generate 957 direct employment and create an indirect employment of over 2700, he added. He said the company has made a provision of Rs 17 crore for taking up various social sector projects and the final blueprints are to be submitted to the Uttaranchal government soon. Inaugurating the production facility at the 17th century French township of Sela Qui near here, Chief Minister N D Tiwari called for making Uttaranchal the ''knowledge state of the country''. ''We have to work together to make Dehradun at par with Bangalore in the it sector. This is one area where there is huge potential of growth, particularly for Uttaranchal as it has no pollution hazards.'' Tiwari said he would request Defence Minister George Fernandes that the defence ministry set up some of its it and electronic-related manufacturing facilities here. Bureau Report
