Chandigarh, Jun 07: The Punjab unit of BJP today termed as "unfortunate" the Akal Takht's decision to grant "martyr" status to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who is said to be the architect of militancy in the state in 1980s. "We don't agree with this. It is unfortunate," party president Brij Lal Rinwa said.
Asked if the saffron party would take up the issue with its alliance partner sad, he said "as a coalition partner (SAD is BJP led government's ally at the Centre) we keep exchanging our views and surely we will take up this issue with them.”
Akal Takht jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti yesterday at Amritsar honoured Bhindranwale as "martyr" and gave the robe of honour to the latter's son at a function organised by SGPC.
The ceremony was attended among others by loyalists of veteran Akali leader and former SGPC chief G S Tohra and SAD president Parkash Singh Badal.
