Srinagar, June 29: Asserting that the vision of prosperous, happy and peaceful India is within the realm of certainty, President A P J Abdul Kalam has said this mission has to be achieved by value addition and optimal use of technology in the farm sector. Stating that Jammu and Kashmir had tremendous human and natural resources, the President said if these were properly developed and channelised by adequate use of technology, the state could become one of the most developed state of the country.
Interacting with the legislators here last evening after giving them a presentation on 'Vision for developed India', Kalam called upon them to fan out to the rural areas, interact with people, know about their problems and find solutions. He said this would help in faster socio-economic development of ruralites.
The President stressed upon the legislators to give top priority for harnessing state's vast hydel power potential as this resource could make Jammu and Kashmir a front line developed state.
He said tourism was another area which has to be promoted in a big way for generating employment avenues and economic activity.
Stating that both these sectors had been listed as thrust areas for the state by the union government, Kalam said tourism has started picking up in the state giving much hope to those associated with it and more efforts are required to promote it.
Explaining his vision of India as a developed country by 2020, Kalam said the country is primarily agriculture based and so was Jammu and Kashmir. Bureau Report
