Ayodhya, July 07: Muslims leaders and clerics have welcomed the decision of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to reject the Kanchi Sankaracharya's proposals to resolve the Ayodhya issue.
Convenor of the Helal Committee, Khaliq Ahmed Khan, who had attended yesterday's meeting of the board at Lucknow, said here today that the seer's proposals were "unacceptable" to the Muslim community.
He said the seer should have first taken the parties contesting the title suits into confidence before initiating any move to resolve the tangle. Khan said there was no suit pending before any court with regard to Kashi and Mathura and as such they were not in dispute.
He alleged that the Kanchi seer changed his earlier proposals "under pressure from the RSS and the VHP". District convenor of the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee Mohammad Yunus Ansari also welcomed the board's decision saying it was in the interest of the Muslims.
One of the plaintiffs in the title suit, Haji Hashim Ansari, said the AIMPLB should have returned the proposals to the seer instead of considering them. Bureau Report
