Mumbai: The ninth day of Navratri is celebrated as Maha Navami since it marks the end of the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga who annihilates buffalo demon king Mahishasura. Her triumph over the demon marks the victory of good over the evil and thus ushers in peace, happiness and prosperity.

Many a times, according to the Hindu calendar, two days get merged together. For instance, Maha Navami thithi spreads over two days as per the Gregorian calendar.

The Navami Tithi began at about 10:30 on October 9 and shall end t about 10:53PM on October 10.
