London, Sept 26: Stating that entry of western media will have a positive impact on the Indian media, Chandan Mitra, MP and veteran journalist has said that foreign investors were not rushing into the country and will not rush into it.
"I don't expect invasion of foreign investors in Indian media as there was not much profit on the card," Mitra, editor and managing director of a leading daily said.
Asked to express his views on the entry of western media in India, Mitra told members of the Indian Journalists Association here last night, "It will have positive impact. It will facilitate up-gradation of the technology."
Speaking on the 'press and politics', Mitra, nominated member of the Rajya Sabha, said that media in India has made a lot of difference and successive governments have become more and more careful and accountable. He said media has expanded phenomenally both in terms of reach and impact. There has been a 20 per cent increase in newspaper circulation in the last two years and the increase was more in places where there were Cable TV.
Mitra said the credit should also go to the media in India for taking up corruption cases particularly regarding Bofors, petrol pump allotment, and the fodder case involving former Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav. Bureau Report
