New Delhi, Oct 16: The Delhi Police have released sketches of the two men, accused of raping a Swiss diplomat at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in New Delhi yesterday evening. The sketches were made from descriptions provided by the victim.
The investigating officers also claimed to have found a lighter and fingerprints from the car in which she was abducted and raped.
"We are strengthening security to ensure that such acts are not repeated in future. Finger prints and some scientific clues have been recovered from the vehicle. We have deployed 16 teams and information from various investigators have been pooled in and we have strong leads in the case," said Vivek Gogia, Deputy Commissioner of Police, south Delhi.
The police have also submitted a report on the incident to the External Affairs Ministry, which is in touch with the Swiss embassy.
The victim left for Switzerland late last night after deposing before the police. Meanwhile, the Swiss Embassy in New Delhi has expressed shock, calling the incident as a threat to the entire diplomatic community.
"She was a diplomat, so her security is the responsibility of the host government. We are in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Delhi Police," said Dr Walter B Gyger, the Swiss Ambassador.
The Embassy has acknowledged the cooperation of the Delhi police and in a mark of respect to their colleague, the Embassy has called off the Diwali dinner, which was to be held on Saturday.
The film industry has also strongly criticised the incident at the venue of the film festival in Delhi.
"This is a most shameful and disturbing thing to happen. It`s a disgrace not to the film festival, but it`s a disgrace to the city and to us as human beings," said producer-director Amol Palekar.
