Patna, July 04: Bowing to the pressure of opposition, Bihar Assembly speaker Sadanand Singh today admitted an adjournment motion moved by a BJP member to discuss the
naxalite attack on a police station in Gaya district on late Wednesday night in which three policemen were killed.
The entire opposition stood up during the zero hour, demanding a statement by the government on initiatives taken by it to check the naxal menace and worsening law and order situation in the state, after the motion was moved by BJP's Ashwani Kumar Choubey.
The BJP legislator in his motion alleged that nearly two-third of state's area was naxalite-affected and criminals were ruling the roost with law enforcement machinery remaining a mute spectator and asked the chair to order a debate on the issue adjourning all listed business. The speaker said it was a grave matter and there should be debate. "I have no objection in admitting the motion provided the entire house so demands," Choubey said.
Deputy speaker Bhola Singh said the officer-in-charge of Paraiya Police Station, who was burnt alive by the naxalites who also gunned down two other policemen, should be given Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award, for not laying down arms. The late official Suresh Paswan boosted the morale of fellow policemen to fight the MCC and People's War (PW) ultras till the end, he noted. Bureau Report
