New Delhi, Aug 15: Expressing hope that country would figure among the developed nations by 2020, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today asked people to collectively work to make it a reality. The people should come forward and collectively demonstrate their grit and determination in making India a developed nation by 2020, he told a gathering of party workers here at the BJP headquarters.
Highlighting the need for more efforts in providing good governance, Advani said, "In 1997, we told the people that it may be true that we are independent for last 50 years but have we achieved the goal of good governance." "I will not say we (NDA government) have achieved this goal but can boast that we made considerable progress by making sincere efforts," he said.
In a brief speech, Advani expressed confidence that the NDA would come back to power in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year. In his speech, BJP president Venkaih Naidu asked people to inculcate the habit of looking at national interest first.
For achieving the status of developed nation by 2020, Naidu said people should have self-discipline, an effective control on population and methods to check pollution.
"If these things are achieved, I am sure that we will become a developed nation even before 2020," he said.
Earlier, Naidu hoisted the tricolour at the headquarters during which Advani was also present. Bureau Report
