New Delhi, June 09: A change of guard in the ruling Delhi Congress is in the offing, five months ahead of assembly elections, with the name of Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh figuring prominently as the front-runner, party sources said.
Hectic parleys are on in this connection and Congress president Sonia Gandhi is in the process of taking views of senior members of the city unit, they said.
The sources said a replacement to Subhash Chopra is likely to be finalised within a couple of days.
The party is believed to have decided on the change to ensure smooth sailing in the upcoming polls, considering that Chopra and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit lead different camps.
When asked about the move, Dikshit told reporters here that "anybody whom the party president appoint will be acceptable to her".
She said she had already conveyed her choice to Gandhi but refused to reveal the name.
