Ahmedabad, Mar 27: The day-long Gujarat bandh called by Congress and VHP to protest killing of BJP leader and former Gujarat state home minister Haren Pandya, today evoked partial response amidst tight security across the state. Schools, colleges and several board examination centres besides shops and business establishments remained open and there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere so far, police said. Rapid Action Force (RAF), State Reserve Police (SRP) and local police have been deployed in many parts of the state in view of the bandh as well as the funeral of the slain BJP leader later in the day, a senior police official said.

Police and para-military personnel have been stationed at strategic points in the city, he added.

In Vadodara city, that witnessed an incident of stone pelting last night, situation remained calm today with only 30 per cent shops joining the bandh. Vehicular traffic also remained unaffected, police said.

In Godhra city of panchmahals district, the bandh call evoked no response with offices, both government and private, and shops continuing business as usual.
Adequate police and para-military personnel were deployed in the sensitive areas, police added.
Pandya was killed by two motor-cycle borne assailants outside a park yesterday.
