Allahabad, Dec 14: A gang of idol thieves has been busted with the arrest of two persons and recovery of ten ancient statues of Hindu deities, a senior police official said today. On a tip off, special operation group personnel accosted the gang in South Malaka area of the city yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar told reporters. The gansgters hurled crude bombs at the policemen and five of them fled, he said adding that two were arrested. They had stolen the idols, which were excavated from the hills in Meja area six months back, and were taking them to Delhi for selling them, Kumar said. Bureau Report
