Lucknow, Sept 16: BSP legislators in Uttar Pradesh
today accused the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government of
resorting to "coercive and intimidiatory tactics" to force them
to support the new government.
Raising the matter in the state assembly during zero hour
through an adjournment motion, the MLAs said the state
government was persecuting them and some of them were even
implicated in false cases.
BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya said
Yadav government was harassing those legislators who had
refused to support the ruling coalition during trust vote.
Another Bsp Mla Anand Prakash Lodhi said before September
6, 2003 there were no criminal cases against him, but within a
week's time many cases had been registered against him.
Indrajit Saroj said he and his workers were being threatened by officials.
However, SP leader and minister Mohammed Azam Khan assured the house that his government did not believe in harassment of legislators and ordered an independent inquiry into the complaints of the MLAs.
The Speaker later rejected the motion.
