Chennai, Sept 23: PMK, a constituent of the NDA, today said though it endorsed the BJP's view that there was a need for Pota, but it should not be used for settling political scores. PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss told reporters here today the Tamil Nadu government's decision to invoke the provisions of the act against Union minister and MDMK leader M Kannappan was condemnable.

"If the state government arrested Kannappan under Pota, the Centre should take stern action against the Tamil Nadu government," he said. However, the PMK founder refused to specify the action he demanded now. "It is for the Centre to act if a Union minister is arrested," he said.

Dr Ramdoss said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was in the habit of creating a sensation every week. 'The decision to take action against Kannappan is this week's sensation', he said.

The freedom of expression had been deprived to all in the state, he alleged adding that some political leaders faced defamation cases and some attracted Pota for their speeches. Asked about the DMK's demand for the repeal of Pota, the PMK founder said if the Centre accepted the demand, "I will be happy."

Earlier, he headed a demonstration protesting against the hike in the fee for professional colleges in the state.

Dr Ramdoss said PMK MLAs would submit memoranda to the VCs of Anna University and MGR Medical Univesity, demanding a reduction in the fee structure.
