New Delhi, July 21: The Delhi High Court today asked the Association of the Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) to file an affidavit alongwith an indemnity bond for the release of compensation money to the legal heirs of the victims. The direction came from a division bench of Justice S K Mahajan and Justice Mukul Mudgal after AVUT's counsel K T S Tulsi submitted that the money had not been released despite the court order. While making it clear that the compensation amount would go the legal heirs of the victims and not to AVUT, the bench asked Tulsi to file an affidavit giving names of the victims' legal heirs alongwith an indemnity bond before the registrar general for release of the money.
The bench made it clear to the Delhi police that it would not entertain its plea for not releasing the Rs 2.14 crore deposited by DCP licencing as compensation to the victims.
