World Bank provides $112.56 mn to Chattisgarh rural project
New Delhi, Aug 18: World Bank will provide $ 112.56 million credit to Chattisgarh`s rural poverty project aimed at creating infrastructure and income opportunities for the rural poor, especially women and tribals.
New Delhi, Aug 18: World Bank will provide $ 112.56 million credit to Chattisgarh's rural poverty project aimed at creating infrastructure and income opportunities for the rural poor, especially women and tribals.
The 'Chattisgarh district rural poverty project', aimed at covering 16 districts and benefiting 15,60,000 families, is expected to be implemented by March 31, 2009, an official release said here today.
An agreement to this effect was signed by B P Mishra, additional secretary, department of economic affairs; Michle Carter, country director, World Bank; and M K Raut, secretary, department of panchayats and rural development, government of Chattisgarh, it said.
As per the agreement, the World Bank would provide 112.56 million dollar as international development agency credit and the Chattisgarh government would have to contribute $ 16.79 million towards the project.
The project having two components -- institutional and human capacity building and community investments – would provide opportunities for the poor and vulnerable, especially women and tribals, to meet social and economic objective, the release said.
