New Delhi, Oct 12: Consumer electronics company Oscar today said it will invest another Rs 20 crore over the next three years in setting up an integrated manufacturing facility for VCDs and DVDs in Himachal Pradesh and is eyeing eight lakh units VCD sales this year. With economies of scale for VCDs, Oscar says it plans to consolidate its leadership position in the market and target 50 per cent of the total organised sector this year, up from 40 per cent the brand reached last year.
"We plan to invest Rs 20 crore over the next three years in the HP unit. With this unit and planned shifting of sizeable chunk of VCD manufacturing to it, Oscar is all set to capture large market share from the gray market," director at Oscar, Arpita Khurana, told here.
She said the company has also added capacity at the existing Noida facility with a new SMT line to take it up to three million units annually.
On what all the company will be offering this festival season, Khurana said two new VCD models have been introduced, the 3-VCD changer and the 6-in-one system, taking the total number of VCD models in the market at 17.
She said the company also plans to promote Oscar true flat 21-inch colour television model this season by offering price discounts. Bureau Report
