Tiruchirappalli, Sept 05: A DMK MLA and four other partymen have been arrested here on charges of interfering with the work of a traffic police constable and instigating party cadres to attack him. P Baranikumar, representing Tiruchi-I constituency in Tamil Nadu assembly, and his four associates, including corporation councillor R G Sathyamurthy, were arrested late last night in connection with the incident that happened on Wednesday, police said.

According to police, the incident related to an alteration between the MLA's assistant and the constable during a traffic jam.
Cases have been filed against them under three sections of the IPC, police said.

Meanwhile, the MLA's associates, who alleged that the constable had abused Bharanikumar, said two inspectors went to his house and called him to the police station for investigation last night. On reaching there, he was arrested, they said.
