Quetta, June 21: Authorities in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province have seized 4,800 kilograms of morphine and arrested two traffickers in the biggest ever haul, officials said today. "Our men raided the mountainous Naushki area and after an exchange of fire with smugglers seized 4,800 kilograms of morphine," Colonel Mohammad Shahbaz, in charge of frontier corps said without giving any detail on the operation.
Shahbaz claimed that the haul was the biggest ever in this province. Last month Pakistan customs officials seized 1,350 kilograms of heroin in Baluchistan.
During another operation in Naushki district, 28 kilograms of heroin was recovered from a car and two traffickers were arrested, Shahbaz said.
In another raid on Thursday the same wing of the paramilitary frontier corps recovered 250 kilograms of morphine and 500 kilograms of hashish from Shabian area of Chaghi district.
