New Delhi, July 27: Following representations from various Internet Service Providers that leased line rates were high, telecom regulator Trai is likely to come out with a consultation paper on "review of leased line tariffs", soon. According to sources, in the wake of representations from internet service players, the regulator will issue a consultation paper on review of leased line tariffs sometime next month.

When contacted, Amitabh Singhal, secretary, Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) said, "We have been writing to Trai on this issue. The last review of leased lines took place in 1999, and since then there has been downward revision in many spheres, but charges for leased lines are still high."
Singhal said that TRAI should ensure that the ISPs got "competitive rates" for leased lines.
Meanwhile, sources said that the process of consultation on the issue could be concluded in two or three months. Bureau Report
