The 53-year-old actor is unloading eight paintings by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat at Christie's auction house in London, England, during auctions, reported MTV online.

The auction saw Depp enjoy a hugely profitable return on two of the Basquiat works. While one of the pieces, Pork, was expected to reach upwards of USD 3.35 million (?2.5 million), it eventually sold for USD 6.8 million (?5.1 million) after receiving a phone bid from Elaine Kwok and resulted in being the top sale of the night.

Depp had purchased the acrylic, oil and oilstick painting from Los Angeles gallery Blum & Poe in 1998.
