Washington, Sept 25: Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has told US President George W Bush that his country has become a food surplus country, a senior US administration official said. Karzai during his meeting with Bush said that because of both good rains and farm management, his country has produced surplus food this year, the official said yesterday.
"They are actually exporting, trying to sell their wheat this year, which, for a country that has had a number of years of famine, is good news," the official said.
Karzai and Bush, said the official, talked about the progress in the war on terrorism, in fighting the Taliban, and the need to redouble those efforts, particularly in certain parts of Afghanistan.
Bush also reiterated US support to Afghanistan, the official said.
