United Nations, June 26: The United Nations warned today that Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network remains a "significant threat" and that it may have been able to rebuild its support since the backlash after the September 11 attacks. The report by an anti-terrorism committee set up after the attacks on New York and Washington in 2001 said "al-Qaeda and its associated groups still pose a significant threat to international peace and security."

It added: "There are also indications that the al-Qaeda network had been able to reconstitute its levels of support."

The committee of five experts was set up by the UN Security Council to survey measures taken against al-Qaeda such as moves to end its financing and prevent travel by its members.
