Bagram Air Base (Afghanistan), Oct 03: Two
explosions shook the US-led coalition's Bagram Air Base
headquarters near Kabul today, but details of any casualties
and the cause of the explosions were not immediately
available, officials and witnesses said.
The base was rattled by two explosions outside its
gate, US military spokesman Colonel Rodney Davis told
reporters.
"About 9:45 (1045 IST) this morning we heard two
explosions outside the Bagram gate off post, it seem to come
from the vicinity of the town," Davis said.
He was unable to provide any information on
possible casualties. It was not immediately clear if the
explosions were accidental or triggered by anti-coalition
elements.
"We are investigating at this time; we are
coordinating with the local Afghan authorities," Davis said.
A reporter on the spot heard one explosion early in the morning.
A big cloud of dust covered the northern side of the base soon after the loud blast. Several military ambulances, sirens blaring, were seen rushing towards the site of the explosion.
Military police ringed the area and blocked entry into the base, witnesses said.
