President to meet Mig crash victims` families
New Delhi, Aug 05: The Supreme Commander of armed forces, President A P J Abdul Kalam will meet the widows and families of the pilots who lost their lives in Mig-21 crashes at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
New Delhi, Aug 05: The Supreme Commander of armed forces, President A P J Abdul Kalam will meet the widows and families of the pilots who lost their lives in Mig-21 crashes at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
In response to a petition to him from the victims'
families, Kalam gave them time to meet him today, official
sources said. In their plea to the President, the families had
sought the phasing out of Mig21 fighters from IAF.
Kalam had also agreed to meet Kavita Gadgil who recently formed the Bahijit Safety Foundation in Mumbai in memory of her son who was killed in a Mig 21 crash two years ago.
The meeting comes in the wake of media reports that President Kalam had forwarded the petition from the families widows to the Prime Minister.
It also comes just days after Defence Minister George Fernandes flew in a Mig-21 to dispel fears about the safety of these fighter jets. Bureau Report
