Dhaka, Nov 20: In a gruesome incident, at least eleven members of a Hindu family, including a four-day-old baby and seven women, were burnt to death by armed dacoits
after they were prevented from robbing the house in southern Chittagong in Bangladesh.
A group of 25-30 dacoits broke into the house of Tejendra Shil at Sadanpur village in Chittagong district on Tuesday night but the inmates prevented the bandits from breaking in, police said.
Failing in their efforts, the dacoits sprayed kerosene and set the house ablaze, killing eleven persons, including 70-year old Sil. Sil's brother was the only surviving member of the family as he managed to escape by jumping from the first floor roof of the house.
Preliminary investigations were on, police said, adding no one has yet been arrested.
Home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury visited the spot alongwith top police officials.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's top opposition leader Sheikh Hasina termed the incident as a "cruel manifestation of medial inhumanity" and demanded severe punishment for those involved in the killing.
