Washington, Dec 04: The United States urged Americans to defer nonessential travel to Saudi Arabia, warning of the potential for further attacks on US citizens or transport and aviation targets.
Washington, Dec 04: The United States urged Americans to
defer nonessential travel to Saudi Arabia, warning of the potential
for further attacks on US citizens or transport and aviation
targets.
''The US government continues to receive indications of
terrorist threats aimed at American and western interests, including
the targeting of transportation and civil aviation,'' the State
Department yesterday said on its web site.
Washington on Tuesday warned of possible attacks in Saudi Arabia on compounds housing westerners, saying it had information that at least one residential complex was under surveillance by militants. Britain's embassy in Riyadh also said it believed militants planned more bombings in the kingdom.
The State Department said it had information indicating that the Seder village housing compound in Riyadh had been under ''active surveillance by terrorists'' and credible information that militants were targeting residential compounds throughout the country, but particularly in the capital.
The US embassy on Tuesday said it was restricting its American employees and their dependents from visiting housing compounds in the capital Riyadh at night.
Diplomats in Riyadh have said the seder village compound may have been the target of last week's foiled bomb attack in which security forces said they had seized a car with more than 1.2 tonnes of explosive.
