Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday without transacting any business over the Gujarat issue as repeated attempts by the chair to restore calm proved unsuccessful.
Led by newly-elected member and RJD leader, Laloo Prasad Yadav, the Opposition demanded a discussion on communal violence in Gujarat followed by voting.
TDP members were also seen protesting over the issue.
In response to Yadav's protest, Chairman Krishan Kant merely said "question hour" meaning it could not be compromised.
Congress leader Raju Parmar and other opposition members then raised slogans "Modi hatao desh bachao (remove Narendra Modi and save the country)".
Displaying handcuff signs, Yadav said Modi should be put behind bars to restore calm in the state.
Sensing the mood, Chairman Krishan Kant adjourned the House for the day within minutes after it met. Bureau Report
