Kolkata, Oct 23: Tennis ace Leander Paes, forced to take leave off the circuit since August due to a parasitic infection in the brain, has began to script his autobiography
to share his story of obstacles, triumphs and patriotism.
"I want to share with the world my experience. It is my way of sharing my story - anecdotes, obstacles, triumphs that I had in my journey - with the youth of the country and the tennis fraternity," Paes told newspersons here yesterday.
While he started working on the autobiography a few years ago in 1999, "the last three months have given me a different perspective," Paes, recuperating from a brain cyst after being treated at the M D Anderson Cancer Centre in Orlando, US, said.
"I just relased how fragile life is and therefore want to pursue the other goals in life with more vigour and passion," he said.
Writing, which falls among his 'other goals', "is similar to tennis. Both are a form of self expression," the winner of six grand slam titles said.
Asked if Paes' 'story', like his tennis, would lay emphasis on patriotism, the 30-year-old Kolkata boy said "it will be very unflattering of me to write about it, though you (the media) have highlighted it. I am very grateful to you."
Paes, however, did not say how long he would take to complete his memoirs or the publisher, saying "I will give myself unlimited time for it."
