Hyderabad, Sept 24: The multi-crore fake stamp paper scam rocked the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the second day today with the opposition Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the racket while ruling TDP's ally BJP called for a CBI probe in view of its "nationwide implications". Quoting media reports, he said TDP Legislator C Krishna Yadav, who is now in custody of Maharashtra police, had threatened to disclose the names of party bigwigs allegedly involved in the racket.
Pointing that Yadav was a minister in the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet when he struck deals with the prime accused in the racket, Abdul Kareem Telgi in 1999, Owaisi asked how the Chief Minister, "who took pride in being a high-tech administrator, failed to notice a massive scam occurring right under his nose". Earlier, BJP floor leader Haribabu, while refraining from criticising the government, urged Congress-ruled Karnataka and Maharashtra, where the network of scamsters was busted, to come forward and agree for a CBI probe into the racket as it had nationwide ramifications.
