Karna nod for increasing capacity of Bidadi power project
Bangalore, Oct 16: Karnataka cabinet today gave its approval to increase the capacity from 700 MW to 1,400 MW of the gas-based combined cycle power project proposed to be set up by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited at Bidadi, near here.

Briefing reporters, information minister Allum Veerabhadrappa said the project would cost Rs 4055.81 crore with four units of 350 mw each coming up. The capacity was earlier planned at 700 MW.
Natural gas would be used as fuel for the project which is expected to be completed in 36 months, official sources said. Five reputed companies, including Gail, Reliance and BPCL would supply gas, they said. Veerabhadrappa said the cost of generation would be Rs 2.40 per unit at 77 per cent plant load factor and Rs 2.29 per unit at 85 per cent PLF.
The cabinet, he said, also decided to form a task force for "senior citizens" to look into their problems and consider facilities that could be provided to them to lead a better life. It was also decided to wind up the Karnataka Film Development Corporation which has been reeling under loss for the last 10 consecutive years, he said. VRS would be offered to its employees.
