`Economic freedom still a far cry`

'Sewa', an NGO being run in a village at Kutch, is engaged in carrying out welfare activities at the village level. We started it in 1972 and it has gone through different phases and has achieved a lot through the years.
The mission has been so successful at the village level that the villagers finally have managed to free themselves from the clutches of the money-lenders and 'zamindars'. This village of Kutch now also has a cooperative bank, which was opened in 1974.

India might have gained political freedom, but economic freedom is yet to be achieved. For a country like India, poverty is still a menace, and many 'August 15's' need to be seen before we are able to get rid of it.
